Weds Night Bible Study 4-14-10
Practice: "I'm listening, Lord!"
Prayer: God open our ears to hear, eyes to see and a heart that is hungry for you.
Ask a few questions to get you thinking:
• Do you think God is involved on a day-to-day basis in running our lives?
• Does God really desire to be involved in the small details in our lives?
• Should we only approach God with the big stuff that we cannot handle ourselves? (come to think of it probably everything is small stuff to God)
Study Goal: We will be learning more about how to hear from God and be lead by the Holy Spirit!
Position Yourself: We must know Jesus
John 3:16 We are invited into relationship w/ the Everlasting God
Acts 1:8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you and you will be my witnesses.
e.g. Peter the disciple--failure to honor Christ in the hard places; would become the Rock of the church. Transformed, not by Scripture, but by the Spirit--experiencing a new dimension in God. This is an example of God's desire to supernaturally empower a servant for a task.
We have a mission and we need the power to accomplish it!!! We must listen!
Luke 8:18 Does God expect us to listen? "I'm listening!"
• the Spirit brings truth, freedom, and power
Romans 8:15 "I'm listening!"
Hebrews 4:12 "I'm listening!"
God is not bound by humanness, so it is possible for God to speak to us in many, many ways. I am going to list of some of those ways. Think about them and ask yourself if you have heard God in these ways.
• His Word
• nature (God created us to connect with creation)
• people
• circumstances
• peace
• wisdom
• supernatural intervention
• dreams
• visions
• inner witness
• conscience
• desires
• audible voice
God speaks to people every day:
• Romans 1:19-21 "I'm listening!"
We can rebel against God; choose to not listen
Our decision must be to listen
Extend God an invitation
Are you expecting God to speak?
• John 14:26 Jesus is speaking "I'm listening!"
• The Spirit edified--lifts up--Christ
• Know Jesus? Invite the Spirit to live in you.
In Luke 11:13 Father gives good gifts; Father will give HS if asked
John 14:15-17 "I'm listening!"
• Requirement for our hearing--keep the commandments
Are you expecting to hear from God?
• God knows the number of hairs that are on our heads; God cares about everything in our lives
• God desires a relationship with you; people in relationship spend time together in communication
When God does a new thing:
• When God speaks to you; faith is released in you to accomplish whatever the task before you
